Sarah Madison’s Walk A Mile

Good morning everyone! It’s a great day to have Sarah Madison join me today to talk about her new book Walk A Mile. If you haven’t had a chance to read some of her work, you should. She writes wonderful books. I cannot wait to read this one as well. I had the chance to interview Sarah and boy did we have fun! After the interview read all about the book. Don’t forget the excerpt that you don’t want to miss. At the very bottom enter for a chance to win a copy of Unspeakable Words, the first book in the series.

Amanda C. Stone: Good morning Sarah! I’m so excited to have you here today. I’m going to be asking some fun questions today.
Sarah Madison: Hello, Amanda! *waves merrily* I’m so happy to be here today!
ACS: You are a super hero! What’s your super hero name and secret talent?
SM: You had me laughing with this first question, though! When I was in the third grade, a classmate wrote a poem about me, “Super Sarah flies through the air in her purple polka-dotted underwear!” He drew a picture of me to go with it, complete with Hermione Granger-type bushy hair and thick glasses. So I guess I already have a secret identity, complete with super power (and costume, too!)
ACS: Flying would be so much fun! Not so sure about the underwear though. You are on a deserted island and can have only one book with you. What book would it be?
SM: Oh, this one is dead easy. Without a doubt, Gaudy Night by Dorothy L. Sayers. I fell in love with Lord Peter Wimsey when I was ten and I am still in love with him today. Lord Peter was everything I could want as a pre-teen: athletic, brilliant, aristocratic, wealthy, and entertaining. It wasn’t until I re-read the stories as an adult that I realized everything I learned about what a healthy adult relationship should be learned from Lord Peter. Gaudy Night is the diamond in the tiara, though. Harriet Vane must choose between a life of academia (and a life of quiet study and intellect) versus a life within the world (which included physical passion and families). At the time, it didn’t seem possible to her to have both. Peter lets her choose for herself. It’s a masterpiece of writing.
ACS: I have never heard of that book so I had to look it up. That series looks wonderful! Who would you want to have as a stripper at your birthday party?
SM: Matt Bomer. Damn, I answered that one so fast, you’d think I’d been pondering that question for a while! But I love his lean athleticism that doesn’t come across as too beefy. Not to mention that dark hair or those gorgeous eyes!
ACS: His eyes. Oh man his eyes are what do it for me. Whew! *fans self*
If you could be famous/infamous for one thing, what would you choose?
SM: Oh man, this one is not easy. I’d love to be famous for something I’d written but I know that’s not likely to happen. My stories aren’t going to be the kind of thing that’s read fifty or sixty years from now. Mine are the kind of light fun you open when you’ve had a crappy day at work and you just want to visit another universe for a while.

I’d love to discover a kind of animal that no one had heard of before or thought was extinct. That would make the wanna-be naturalist in me very happy.
ACS: How fun would it be to get to name an animal?! If you could travel anywhere all expenses paid where would you go? Name one thing you’d see or do there.
SM: I was fortunate enough to visit the UK a couple of years ago, but I only got to stay a week. That simply wasn’t long enough! As a lifelong Angliophile, however, I was ridiculously excited just to be on British soil. I squealed over magpies, and red call boxes, and the White Cliffs of Dover, and the South Downs. I could have spent an entire week in Oxford alone. I’d go back in a heartbeat, but I’d stay for at least half a year—taking in Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. I’d go up to Yorkshire, and out to Cornwall, and everywhere I went I’d take a thousand pictures and say things like, “Look! It’s a cricket pitch!”

Okay, perhaps I’ve lived a bit of a sheltered life.

If I had to pick one thing and one thing only, then I’d go pony-trekking across Ireland. Yeah. That. It would be awesome.
ACS: I’d love to live in England for a few years. I actually had plans to do so after college but met the husband instead. I’d go there in a heartbeat as well! Thank you so much for joining me today, it was such fun.
SM: Thanks for having me here, Amanda! What fun questions!

Blurb:
Six months after starting their hunt for a serial killer who is still at large, FBI agents Jerry Lee Parker and John Flynn are partners in every sense. But Jerry has serious doubts about their relationship and whether they would even be together if not for the way Flynn changed after touching a mysterious artifact in a museum.

Flynn hates the extraordinary power bestowed on him by the artifact and wants nothing more than to have a normal life again. Jerry fears that without the unusual connection they forged, Flynn will no longer want or need him. Chasing after a similar artifact takes them back to Flynn’s old stomping grounds in Washington D.C., where his newfound abilities uncover long-buried secrets, the kind people would kill to protect. But they aren’t the only ones looking for these powerful relics, and what they discover will threaten their relationship—and their lives.

Excerpt:
Jerry returned his attention to the tableau unfolding in the aisle. Flynn was making his way casually toward Jerry; he yawned, taking his time. 15-A hesitated; Jerry could see that he had stepped into the aisle, but was thinking of sitting back down again. Just then, the door to the toilet opened and the toddler came out into the aisle. Picking up on the air of tension, the child immediately started to wail.

15-A snapped like a wire stretched beyond its tensile strength. Whipping off his sunglasses, he reached into the pocket of his hoodie and pulled out a glass vial. Holding it up high over his head for everyone to see, he shouted, “Everybody stay where you are!”

People glanced up and turned around in their seats, startled and immediately alarmed. 15-A looked around sharply, making sure that no one was trying to rush him. Several people had started halfway up out of their seats to see what was going on; Jerry knew they were remembering United Flight 93.

15-a moved his hand in a broad semi-circle so that everyone could see the vial tucked in his palm. “I have Sarin!” he announced. “If anyone moves, I break the vial. Someone make that child shut up!”
