Lee Brazil’s Simple Simon

So I’m going to fangirl a little bit here. Bear with me, it’s Friday so whatever rules there are (wait a minute, I have rules? Hmm…) get thrown out the window. So, hooray for Lee Brazil to be joining me today. I have the honor of interviewing Lee today. Plus Lee has a new book out called It’s Simple, Simon that is a spiced up version of the nursery rhyme. After the interview, read all about the book. Then all the way at the bottom enter the giveaway for one of three prizes including $10 gift cards, and a fun pie making gift basket.

Amanda C. Stone: Good morning Lee!
Lee Brail: Good morning Amanda! Thank you for inviting me over today. *grins* Is there coffee?
ACS: *scoff* Is there coffee? Silly question. Coffee is required for some of us to function. I have a cup right here for you. Now that you’re caffeinated I’m going to start the interrogation. Whoops, I mean interview! There are lots of good nursery rhymes that could be made into MM Romance books. What made you decide to make the nursery rhyme “Simple Simon” into an MM Romance story?
LB: Well, I didn’t actually decide to do It’s Simple Simon. It was more like, once I heard the call, (Breathless Press has a line dedicated to adult nursery rhymes called Naughty Nursery Rhymes) I couldn’t seem to get Simple Simon out of my head. I was busy, but there he was, whispering to me about flaky crusts and juicy fillings, and how bloody handsome that pieman had been, and how…So I wrote it just to get the characters out of my head.
ACS: Juicy fillings indeed. Do you have plans to write more nursery rhymes into MM Romance? Any hints as to which ones?
LB: Actually, I do. But at the moment that’s all they are. Plans. I like Little Jack Horner and Rub a Dub Dub, but as you say, there are plenty more that would fit the bill!
ACS: I would love to read more nursery rhymes as MM Romance. It’s one of the themes that I will read every single book I can find. But Rub a Dub Dub is one I don’t think I’ve seen before. Just means you have to write it! What was your favorite nursery rhyme/fairy tale when you were growing up? Why?
LB: Hah! Would you believe it was indeed Simple Simon? I loved the whimsy of it- though that may have had more to do with the illustrations in the nursery rhyme book we had as children than the rhyme itself.
ACS: The illustrations are so important for those stories. I think they bring the nursery rhymes to life. Time for the fun questions. If you were a candy bar, what would you taste like?
LB: Am I allowed to make up my own candy bar? Because if I get to taste like food, I rather think I’d taste like cherry pie. (Waits for laughter to stop) No, really. I’m a little flaky, a little sweet, a little tart, juicy…So, yeah somebody make me a cherry pie candy bar. If I have to choose a real, you can buy it on the shelf today candy bar? I guess I’m a Caramello. Thick melt in your mouth chocolate, gooey, sticky sweet caramel centers…yes. That would be me.
ACS: I sense a theme with you Lee. Are you a major fan of pie? You won some bonus points with that. Coffee lover, pie lover. You can be my new BFF. Alright, last question. I know that makes you sad but the interview has to eventually end. A day is now 25 hours, what do you do with the extra hour?
LB: Is this a trick question? Is this hour reserved for fun, or do I have to do any of the million things that don’t fit into the regulation 24?
ACS: Nope no trick questions allowed!
LB: If I had my choice, I suppose I would sleep. Unless there were a deadline, then I’d write, or edit, or blog, or whatever. On the other hand, maybe I’d spend that extra hour a day outside with the dogs. They’d like that. But the cats would be jealous… Hmm. Probably best just to sleep. Hate to upset the cats.
ACS: It’s interesting how there’s a million things we’d all do with an extra hour that we’d need another day just to do another hours worth of wants. Well, that’s the end of our interview. I enjoyed having you here with me Lee.
LB: Thanks again for having me over Amanda! I enjoyed our little chat.

Now read about the book.

Blurb:
Simon Carter has achieved unimaginable success and he owes it all to a man from his past whose scorn set fire to his ambition.

“It’s Simple, Simon. You lack ambition.”

Chase Garvin’s jibe had sent Simon Carter on unexpected paths and brought him unimaginable success. No longer a penniless musician, the highly paid investment banker is going home for the first time in years. He plans to rest, relax, and spend a little time rubbing his ex-lover’s nose in his success. A visit to the Renaissance Fair brings this not-quite-so-simple- Simon nose to nose with his past and somehow revenge doesn’t seem quite so attractive.

Chase Garvin, Denver, Colorado’s very own Pie Man, is still incredibly handsome. What’s more, the more mature Chase is very appreciative of Simon’s talents.

When the old attraction flares between them, Simon and the Pie Man get caught up in tasting the wares, and neither counts the pennies.

About Lee:
I’m an avid reader and former teacher of grammar and composition who believes that falling in love is the grandest adventure anyone can have. In a nutshell, that’s every story I have to tell.

Relocating from the crazy pace of life in Southern California’s Orange County to the beautiful and leisurely atmosphere of the Illinois countryside has given me the time to indulge the desire to write that I set aside when I started teaching fourteen years ago.
