BA Tortuga’s Say Something
BA Tortuga’s latest book Say Something sounds amazing. I’ve got it ready to be read in my (never ending) TBR pile. I love stories where characters have trouble connecting and making love work. I had the chance to sit down with BA and ask a bunch of fun questions. After the interview read all about the book, plus an excerpt that makes you want to know what happens next. At the very bottom be sure to enter for a chance to win a copy of the book!
Amanda C. Stone: Good morning BA! We are going to have some fun questions today because boring questions are boring. If you could travel anywhere all expenses paid where would you go? Name one thing you’d see or do there.
BA Tortuga: *Cackles* Oh, lord. There’s so many places on my list, but the one place I would love to go (and have a tour guide) is Vietnam. Now, I have to tell you that I have three reasons why and only one is a good one. First? I have never met a Vietnamese person I didn’t like and I’ve worked with many in the design field. That’s not to say there aren’t asshats out there, but I like the culture a lot. The second is that I adore reading about Vietnam. It seems to me that people fall in love with the country, so I’m curious as all get out. Third? Pho. I could eat pho every single day. O.o
ACS: I think it would be interesting to go to Vietnam. Everyone I know that has gone says it was worth it. You are on a deserted island and can have only one book with you. What book would it be?
BAT: You’re mean.
ACS: What? Really?
BAT: I’m serious.
ACS: But really, it’s a good question.
BAT: That is so so mean.
ACS: Ok, fine, I accept it’s mean.
BAT: That’s like asking me to choose between my eyeballs.
ACS: Yup, I ask the tough questions here *puts on tough face*
BAT: If you were going to shoot Julia if I didn’t answer, I’d go with The Stand by Stephen King.
ACS: See, was that so hard?
BAT: So. Mean.
ACS: Ok, ok, ok! No more mean questions. I promise! Anyone can buy the rights to name a star. What would you name a star bought for you?
BAT: Angel Baby. *Grins * That’s what my parents call me, what I call the little ones that I love.
ACS: What a beautiful name. Snap your fingers. You just made an invention that can do anything you want. What does it do?
BAT: Makes days 56 hours long so I could get more done. You know how much I could read with that time? Knit? Quilt? Write? OMG.
ACS: If you only wrote a fraction of those extra hours, think of how many books I could read of yours. Last question! Do you have a library card and know where it is?
BAT: I totally do! I’m a library whore. My job before writing full time was illustrating the Texas Summer Reading Club for libraries, my brother in law is a library director, my wife worked in libraries for 20 years and we’re both Friends of the Library. I’m even a member of the ALA. O.o
ACS: Wow. That’s all kinds of cool.
BAT: I know, right? 😉
ACS: Thank you so much for joining me today. I loved having you as always!
Jenson has loved Mike his whole life, but he has never known how to tell Mike how he feels. After high school Mike leaves for college and his Hollywood dream, while cowboy Jenson stays behind in their small East Texas hometown. Neither man knows what to say to go beyond friendship, even though they come together through all of the best and worst times of their lives. The most amazing moments keep bringing them back together, but through huge love and terrible loss, sickness and health, their timing never seems right to take their relationship to the next level. When the universe gives them one final chance, Jenson must overcome his fear and say the most important something before it’s too late.
“So, this guy, he’s the one?” Ricky leaned over the edge of the bed, head dangling down.
“That kills brain cells, man.” Mike looked at himself in the mirror, working the thick pancake makeup to make the scar less noticeable.
“Uh-huh. So does green, and we smoke that. The scar is hot, honey. Leave it alone.”
Mike grunted. “He’s only ever seen it with stitches.”
“He’s, like, a real cowboy?”
“Uh-huh. We’ve been together forever. I just… I can’t believe he’s coming.” Really coming, here. Jenson. Finally. Mike touched up his eyeliner, and looked at himself again. Maybe glasses….
“You’re such a big queen.” Ricky laughed, waving at him upside down.
“You’re just jealous that I’m not your big queen.”
“Nah. You’re too toppy.” Ricky cackled, and Mike had to laugh. Everyone knew Rick would bottom up for anyone.
“Oh yeah. I’m a big bad leather daddy.” He turned and flexed, playing happily. Ricky was going to be a model. Hell, the guy was already working. Him, though, he still wanted to act.
He thought he could. His profs said he had talent. He just had his damned face to overcome.
The phone rang, and he spun around. “Oh God. Do you think it’s him?”
Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy’s Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her basset hounds, getting tattooed, texting her sisters, and eating Mexican food. When she’s not doing that, she’s writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting and surfing porn sites in the name of research. BA’s personal saviors include her wife (still amazing to say that), Julia Talbot, her best friend, Sean Michael, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.
Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to hard-core cowboys to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which was raised in Northeast Texas, but has gone to the high desert mountains and fallen in love. With books ranging from hard-hitting GLBT romance, to fiery menages, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head.
