N.R. Walker’s Red Dirt Heart 3

The very first tour I did with Pride Promotions (and the first tour that went live with them) was for the first Red Dirt Heart book. Amazing to think that was back in February and exactly eight months have gone by since. If you want to read about the first book in the series, you can see the post here. Today I had the chance to interview N.R. and boy was it fun! I asked the hard questions like will we be getting more Red Dirt Heart books. After the interview you won’t want to miss the blurb or the excerpt. You’ll be glad that you did. At the very bottom remember to enter for a chance to win one of three copies of the book or a stuffed wombat toy.

Amanda C. Stone: Hooray for you being here today! So excited to have you. I’m a big fan of the Red Dirt Heart books. Is this the last or will there be more? (More please?!)
N.R. Walker: Awwww, thank you!! You’ll be pleased to know I am currently working on RDH4. This story was supposed to be Book 2, but then Book 2 happened so this book became Book 3. Then Book 3 happened so this story became Book 4. And no, there is no Book 5 😉 RDH4 is the final installment of my Red Dirt Heart Series.
ACS: Ok good. I can handle there only being one more book. At least there’s more! When you wrote the first book did you ever expect it to be come a trilogy?
NRW: Nope, not at all. I know I have a few trilogies now, but I never started any of them thinking there’d be a second or third book. I just keep writing until the characters are done telling their stories. In saying that, I always wanted to write a second book in the Red Dirt Heart Series because I wanted people to hear Travis’ side of the story, but Charlie needed three books first. He’s stubborn like that. 😉
ACS: Charlie may be stubborn, but he needed to finish his story before Travis had a turn. And that’s completely alright! Is it easier writing about where you live? Or is it harder because you want to include all of your favorite spots? (I know Australia is big but I have it in my head that you live near where RDH takes place. If not totally laugh at me because I will for sure).
NRW: OMG it is sooo much easier writing books set in Australia, using Aussie terminology and spelling LOL. I love writing in an Australian voice. It’s easier on every front; the settings, the descriptions, characterisations, dialogue, all of it. I will most definitely be doing it again.

And no, I live no where the Outback. LOL It’s about 2800km’s away. I have been there once, many years ago, but it is not something you forget. I do however, live in regional Australia and was country born and bred, so the settings and characters could have been anywhere and anyone in my life. I wrote them as though I know them, and in a lot of ways I do.
ACS: See, I knew it was probably far away. But because I’ve never been to Australia yet it’s hard to picture the magnitude. Fun question time. Do you have a library card and know where it is?
NRW: Yes, I do, and yes, I do. 🙂
ACS: But. You didn’t. *sigh* Fine. Don’t tell us where it is then. Last question. When’s the next Blind Faith book coming out? 😉
NRW: Did Will Parkinson pay you to ask me that? LOL He’s been hounding me since the last book was published 😉   I did eventually cave in and give him a date… it was the 12th of Never. 😉
ACS: You heard it here folks! November 12th we’ll get another Blind Faith book. Thank you so much for joining me N.R. It’s always a pleasure having you.

Blurb:
Life for Charlie Sutton has never been better, or busier. With Travis now a permanent fixture of Sutton Station, a permanent fixture at Charlie’s side, Charlie’s convinced he couldn’t do anything on his ever-growing to-do list without him.

He can run a multimillion dollar cattle business, finish his degree, try and further the local beef industry, deal with staff issues, Ma’s failing health, and an attention-demanding wombat. He can even deal with an unexpected visitor and some shattering news.

He can deal with it all, as long as he has Travis.

But what happens when he doesn’t?

Red Dirt Heart 3 is the story of Charlie Sutton finally realising he can be the man Travis Craig deserves, even if he doesn’t have Travis. It’s a story of love, family, holding on, letting go and coming home.

Excerpt:
We climbed into the ute and Travis drove, only mumbling under his breath once or twice about what side of the road he was on. I thought we were headed to find something to eat, but he pulled up at a pet store.

“What are we doing?”

“You’ll see,” was all he said as he was getting out.

I followed him into the pet shop, past the puppies, fish and birds down to the kennels and produce. When he stopped at cat beds, I shook my head. “Oh, no no no. We’re not getting a cat. We used to have one, it lived in the shed and the bloody thing was feral.”

He didn’t even look at me. “It’s not for a cat, Charlie.” He picked up a cushion-box looking thing with a hole in the front. The label called it a cat igloo. “It’s for your damn wombat.”

“Oh,” I said brightly. “Well, that’s okay then.”

He pushed Nugget’s new bed into my chest. “So he sleeps in his bed, not ours.”

A sales guy, about eighteen years old, walked up and was looking at us funny. He probably just heard what Travis said, and I didn’t care. I just shrugged, guessin’ that I’d come a long way in the last six months. “How did I know he’d think it was playtime?”

Travis sighed and turned to the sales assistant. “Do you have any feed pellets for wombats?”

He raised his eyebrows. “Wombats?”

I nodded. “Yep, you know, ‘bout this big,” I held up my hands to show him, “shape of a brick, cute little thing.”

Travis took a god-fucking-help-me breath. “About a year old, pain in the arse, stubborn as hell, boot-chewin’, gets into everything type of wombat.”

About N.R.:

Who am I?

Good question…

I am many things: a mother, a wife, a sister, a writer.

I have pretty, pretty boys who live in my head, who don’t let me sleep at night unless I give them life with words.

I like it when they do dirty, dirty things… but I like it even more when they fall in love.

I used to think having people in my head talking to me was weird, until one day I happened across other writers who told me it was normal.

I’ve been writing ever since…
