K. Vale’s Crossed Hearts

I’m very excited to have K. Vale join me today with her latest book Crossed Hearts. I’m very excited to read this book and I hope you find it interesting as well. She stopped by for a super fun interview that was a blast to do. After the interview, find out all about the book and read the excerpt that will make you want to find out what Will and Kory say next. At the very bottom, enter for a chance to win an Amazon gift card.

Amanda C. Stone: Good morning K.! I’m so glad you stopped by for a visit.
K. Vale: Thanks a bunch for having me, Amanda! I appreciate your hospitality. 🙂
ACS: Aww! Definitely love having people join me here on my blog to talk about their awesome books, and fun silly things. If you could be famous/infamous for one thing, what would you choose?
KV: I’d like to be famous for being the Mercy champion of every raging kegger of my youth. That is, until “the incident.” Perhaps infamous is the better word.
ACS: Part of me REALLY wants to ask for that story. The other part of me realizes I should probably ask it more privately. *types on phone* There, question sent 😉 If there were a movie about your life, who would you want to play you? It can be anyone alive or dead.
KV: I’d like Kate Winslet to play me because I love her. As far as who would be most (in)appropriate, it’s probably Amy Schumer.
ACS: I absolutely love Kate. She is someone that is very classic to me. But I recently discovered Amy Schumer and oh my gosh, she is FUNNY! You are traveling with The Doctor (or any other time traveling person). Would you visit the past or the future?
KV: Past. I’d take my highly charismatic cat with me to ancient Egypt and hope to be exalted to deity status. I’d be sure my time machine was available to take me back in case that didn’t work out, though. The language barrier could be a problem.
ACS: Minor details.
KV: Hmm…maybe I’ll switch to future. I can see if any of my kids are miscreants and take proper measures now (you know, disinherit them sooner rather than later).
ACS: I vote for cat-induced deity status. That sounds like it would be the most fun. Plus we would all get to study your amazingness in flock to see your sarcophagus in a museum in England somewhere. Who would you want to have as a stripper at your birthday party?
KV: Only one? Is this for some inconsequential mid-decade birthday?
ACS: Not so sure about inconsequential since all birthdays are AWESOME! But yup, just one. I’m cruel and unusual like that. Ok, not really but I like to pretend.
KV: Okay, fine. Tom Hardy. I turn forty my next birthday, so I think Tom Hardy and Gerard Butler together would be more celebratory. I’ll jump right to fifty if I can throw Vin Diesel in there and they’ll all touch each other.
ACS: Oh my gosh! Such an amazing line up. I’ll totally let you have all three, skip the age jump, if I’m invited to the party! *drool* Wait, where was I? Oh yes, interview. Final question. If you were a candy bar what would you taste like?
KV: York Peppermint Patty, baby. I’ve got a tooth-brushing obsession, so the mintier the better. A sweet, cool center sandwiched in dark chocolate? Sounds heavenly.
ACS: Yum! Minty candy is so good. Thank you so much for joining me today. I absolutely loved having you.

Blurb:
Kory Vansant doesn’t deserve to be alive.

As time sucks him dry of energy, sapping the final ounces of strength from his congenitally enlarged heart, he’s forced to end his career as Kory Kent, porn star. Staring down death, he questions his life choices and prays for a miracle. For another chance at life, he vows to change who he is at his core.

His prayers are answered. A perfect heart now beats in his chest, but it comes at a heavy price. The donor is an innocent young man cut down far too prematurely.

And Kory’s blemished history is nowhere near an ideal match.

As his debts skyrocket, Kory can’t help but think his resolve to walk the high road is being tested. After he meets the adorable Will Squire at the gravesite they both visit, he’s doubly damned because there’s no way he can keep up his end of the bargain. What happens when a man breaks a deal with a higher power?

Will often prefers the company of the dead to that of the living. Following a bad breakup, he pours himself into his two jobs—funeral director at his uncle’s mortuary and part-time paramedic. He’s drawn ever closer to Kory, as if fate sticks her fickle hand in and pushes them together like two unlikely puzzle pieces. But sometimes history can’t be buried, and maybe divine intervention isn’t always right. Will discovers everyone is imperfect, no matter how pretty the outer package, and opening one’s heart is never easy, but can be oh so worth the pain.

Excerpt:
The man scratched the scrub on his chin. “Heart recipient,” he said finally. “I’m Kory—umm…Kory Vansant.” Holding out his hand, he took another step. Will’s fingers were swallowed in warm skin and bone.

“Will Squire.” Again, he couldn’t tear his gaze from the tease of scar tissue jutting from the crotch of Kory’s shirt collar. The urge to reach out and trace a finger over the pink relief of healed tissue was strong. Just like I touched Brandon’s incision. The stark difference between the two—one wound marking the end of a life and the other a salvation—was surreal. Will was nothing but an outsider looking in on a miracle, but somehow he felt he’d come around full circle.

“Want me to get naked so you can see the whole thing?”

Will closed his eyes for a moment and then looked up, his face flaming with a mix of embarrassment and immediate, fierce arousal. “I’m sorry. Totally rude.”

Kory smiled good-naturedly. “No worries. It’s a way to reclaim who I am, or was. Or some crap. I’m not just my medical status, like they keep saying at my support group.”

“No. Of course you’re not.”

He laughed loud and deep, and the warmth in Will’s face drifted down his body. “I’ve adopted it as my little icebreaker whenever people stare,” Kory said.

“Well, ice broken.” Will gulped. Hell, ice melted into a rolling boil.
