But after he makes a drunken fool of himself in front of Detective Williams, he’s sure there’s no hope.

Beau and Austin’s worlds collide right away when Austin is sent to pick up some evidence at the station. Amidst a myriad of twists and turns in the troubling serial killer style murders of Vegas conventioneers, Austin and Beau discover that there’s more to the other than they’d originally thought. There might even be more they’d like to give – unless the killer has the final say.

Excerpt:
“Well, this has been quite the evening.”

Parker chuckled. “Yeah, that’s for sure. Hey, if you think you’re gonna be okay with him, I’d like to get Lonnie home. He has the opening shift at the coffee shop tomorrow, so he has to be there by five thirty.”

“Then you’d better get going. We’ll be fine.”

“Okay, goodnight Beau.” Parker patted him on the back. “Uh, Austin. Be more careful next time, all right?”

Austin grimaced, nodding before grabbing his head and moaning. He held up the foam cup. “Thangs.” Then he went back to staring at the ground.

They finished their goodbyes then Parker and Lonnie headed to the parking lot. Beau considered his charge. He could drive Austin to his place, but he wasn’t entirely sure of his travel-worthiness. If he could avoid having someone vomit all over his upholstery, he’d be thrilled.

“How are you doing?”

Austin peeked up at him from behind his hand. He’d already let go of Beau, but Beau hadn’t dared let go of him. He figured it would be easier to keep him standing rather than lifting him up from the sidewalk.

“I thi…” He averted his gaze, taking another sip of coffee. “Ge’ing better.”

“Hmm. Not by much.”

Austin sighed. “S’kay. Thangs, I’ll…”

He took a step forward, attempting to pull himself from Beau’s hold at the same time. Beau grasped him around his waist before he face planted. The remains of the coffee spilled onto the ground.

“You might be getting better, but your motor skills haven’t gotten the memo yet.”

“Damn…sush, such a fool.” A small sob escaped him before it turned into bitter laughter. “Jesus, Vinnie. Why? Coulda been here with me. Coulda had a few drinks, few laughs. Instead…”

Oh Jesus, the guy’s crying.

Whoever this Vinnie guy was, it sounded as if he’d broken up with him and Austin appeared pretty devastated. Beau knew all about heartbreak. There’d been one particularly awful one when he was twenty-four. It was eight years later and it could still cause a twinge if he dwelled on it. He hoped Austin wasn’t going through one of those.

A few people glanced at them as they walked by. Beau was holding a weeping Austin, and while it was far from the most interesting thing happening in Vegas at the moment, Beau wasn’t super comfortable drawing attention to himself. He also wasn’t a fan of scenes, but the incident at the bar had been too close to home. There wasn’t the slightest chance he wouldn’t have stood up to some bigoted asshole threatening someone.

“Do you think you can manage a short ride back to your place without hurling all over my car?”

Austin sniffed, hiccupped then gave a small nod of his head.

“Then let’s go.”
