Avril Ashton’s So Far Gone
I’m very excited to have Avril Ashton back here with me today. Her latest book So Far Gone is out now and you won’t want to miss it. I read it recently and I just couldn’t put it down. I had the chance to interview Avril and it was a blast! After the interview you can read all about the book, plus an excerpt that I know you won’t want to miss. At the very bottom you will find details on how to enter for a chance to win an e-copy of the book.
Amanda C. Stone: I’m so excited to have you here today. I enjoyed reading So Far Gone. How did the idea for this story come about?
Avril Ashton: I like drama, so I asked myself what would happen if two strangers had a one night stand only to find that they’re not really strangers after all?
ACS: That scene when they both realize they know each other and HOW is just amazing. You write some amazing angst that winds up in the dirtiest sex. How do you keep up that level of awesome in your books without using the same things over and over again?
AA: LOL Thank you, but sex is my least favorite thing to write. It’s rarely ever sexy when I’m writing it. Mostly I’m too focused on the mechanics of it, what goes where and all that. I don’t take too many risks in writing sex, I keep it pretty simple: a bed and lube. Condom if the mood/story calls for it, some dirty talk and I let the characters do what they do.
ACS: It’s funny because some of your best sex scenes don’t involve a bed at all. But what you’re doing is working so keep on doing it! Time for fun questions! If you could travel anywhere all expenses paid where would you go? Name one thing you’d see or do there.
AA: I’d like to travel period. See the world. Europe, Asia. The entire Caribbean. I just wanna go, man.
ACS: I’d be right there with you. There is magically 25 hours in a day. What would you do with the extra hour?
AA: Read. Good God, there is never enough time when it comes to reading.
ACS: So much truth! I think there should be a mandatory reading time built into the day where no one can do anything but read. Alright, last question. If you were a candy bar what would you taste like?
AA: Chocolate. Just chocolate 😉
ACS: Hahaha! Chocolate is definitely something many people love. Myself included. Thank you so much for joining me today Avril. It was a pleasure having you. Now read all about the book.
One night? Feels like three years…
One night? Feels like three years…
Jacob Donnelly wants something new. Something different. Which is why he’s got a one-way ticket to New York and his bags packed. One last night out to the bar finds him in a sexy stranger’s bed, giving in to an explosive chemistry Jacob had been searching for, but never found. Until now. It’s too bad he’s leaving town, although once he finds out his one night stand’s true identity, Jacob can’t get away fast enough.
Cash Warner made a mistake. It doesn’t matter that he’d never felt anything like the fire generated between him and Jacob. He doesn’t plan to ever see his one-night hookup ever again. Except he does. When the reality of what they’d done fully sets in, Jacob flees, leaving Cash struggling with how to deal with the bitter taste of betrayal he can’t escape. Because even with Jacob gone for years, Cash can’t stop wanting more of that one night. Fate conspires against them once again, bringing Jacob home after tragedy strikes, and they’ll find it near impossible to keep their distance despite being committed to other people.
Jacob made it to the motel in under fifteen minutes and stood outside room 201, a hand raised, as he hesitated to knock. His body was jittery, needing what Cash appeared to be willing to give. This would be the first time Jacob’s mind tried to talk him out of hooking up with a stranger. The intense sensation of falling he got while staring into Cash’s dark gaze threatened to overwhelm him.
He swallowed and knocked. Once. A low rap of his knuckles on the locked door. He shuffled from foot to foot, trying to act as if he was together when he wasn’t. What kind of shit was this?
The door opened and Cash stood there in bare feet, wearing only his dark jeans. The jacket and t-shirt from before were gone, leaving his well-defined upper body bare.
Jacob’s mind blanked.
“You coming in?”
He was, wasn’t he? Coming in? Jacob nodded and stepped forward, past Cash and into the room. His mind was a jumbled mess and the sound of the door’s locks engaging made him jump. He looked over his shoulder. Cash leaned against the door, arms folded, muscles bunched as he stared at Jacob. He was fine, the smooth brown of his skin, the intensity in his eyes, the strength in his well-honed body.
Jacob licked his lips, allowing his gaze to dip below Cash’s waist. The sizeable bulge straining against Cash’s zipper made his mouth water.
“What do you like?” Cash’s voice was more of a growl and Jacob fought an answering moan. This was crazy. He was usually the aggressor, the one who made the first move. He liked a cock in his ass, for sure, but more often than not he was the top.
“I like everything,” he said in a hoarse whisper. Cash’s teeth flashed as he pushed away from the door and approached slowly.
“Turn around. Get undressed.”
Jacob did so without hesitation, facing the bed that took up most of the space. He kicked off his boots then unbuckled his belt and slid his jeans down his legs and off. He stood there, his back to a now silent Cash, wearing a pair of black socks, blue and white stripped boxers, and his white t-shirt.
“Off,” Cash said. “Everything.”
Jacob clenched his fists then bent, tugging off his socks. Rough fingers dipped under the waistband of his boxers then hooked and pulled the underwear down. He stayed like that, bent over as Cash left the boxers bunched around Jacob’s thighs and smoothed a palm over his ass.
Jacob inhaled sharply.
So much rough in that one word, Jacob couldn’t stand it. He straightened quickly and pulled his t-shirt up and over his head, but before he could pull it completely off, Cash pressed against him.
A ragged moan escaped at the feel of Cash’s warmth against his back. He remained still as Cash kissed him, firm lips skating down the ridges of his spine. His arms cramped from remaining in one position, but Jacob wouldn’t do anything that would take Cash’s lips away from his skin.
A Caribbean transplant, Avril now lives in Stone Mountain, GA., with a tolerant spousal equivalent. Together they raise an eccentric daughter who loves reading and school (not so much school anymore). Avril’s earliest memories of reading revolve around discussing the plot points of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys with an equally book-minded mother.
Always in love with the written word, Avril finally decided to do the writing in August of ’09 and never looked back. Spicy love scenes, delicious heroes, and wicked women burn up the pages of Avril’s stories, but there’ll always be a happy ending; Av remains a believer of love in all its forms.
Addicted to cake, the ID Channel and the UFC, Avril writes Erotic and GLBT Romance for Ellora’s Cave, Evernight Publishing, eXtasy Books, Secret Cravings Publishing and Total-e-Bound.
