Writing Updates and Upcoming Releases

Yup. You read that right. Releases. As in more than one! It’s been a while since I did an update on my writing and what I’m working on. Been so busy working on it I forgot to get everyone excited about it! Now I have three projects to update you on and two are releases. Can you feel my excitement from where you’re sitting? Because it’s pretty exciting from where I am! So you know you should probably at least scroll all the way to the bottom of the post and enter the contest. Who doesn’t love free books?

As you may have read in my last update, my short story Agent Princess Twinkle Buttons: Matchmaker is coming out in the Rooster & Pig anthology, Kritter Tales. While I don’t have a firm release date yet, I can tell you all of the content edits are done. I’m just waiting on whatever edits come next, a cover and then all that other stuff (formatting, uploading, and publishing house type stuff) and it’ll be released. This close to the holidays I can guarantee it won’t be before the new year.

That’s alright though because it leads me to my next project to update you on. I had a short story idea banging around for a while and decided to write it down right before I wrote Princess Twinkle Buttons. I completed the short, however the story wasn’t really enough to stand on it’s own. So I set those two characters aside and continued working on After The Knock. Life got in the way of all writing for a few weeks so I didn’t work on anything, but I was thinking about those two characters and realized they had just a bit more to say. However it wasn’t going to be more of the same story. It was different stories. In fact, six short stories together is where I ended it. The Adventures Of Cole and Perry was born. If you want to read an exclusive scene that won’t be in the book, you can read it on Vicktor Alexander’s blog.
Right now I’m track to release the book by mid January. This book I’m going to be self publishing so I’m doing everything myself. Or at least, paying others to help me all by myself. For those that don’t know, I’m pretty handy with graphics. So I’m doing my own book cover. I’m going to be doing a cover reveal around the new year once I have a better idea of exactly when it’ll be released. There’s also going to be a blog tour to go along with the release. I’m pre-thanking Will Parkinson for doing the tour since I’ll be using Pride Promotions to help me get the word out about my totally awesome, future New York Times best selling book. Ahem. Or, you know, just my book I’m hoping to sell enough copies to pay for editing and formatting. Whichever works, though somewhere in between the two would be amazing.

My final writing update is about After The Knock. I reached the point in my writing where I lost my faith in myself. Happens with everything I write, even when I was little. The point varies from project to project. But I needed a break from it and used the time away to do a bit more plotting and outlining. I wrote a tiny bit when I wasn’t writing it. I know, it makes no sense. If I write just a little bit here and there, I’m not REALLY working on it. Or at least that’s my logic. Those little bits became more and I’m back in my flow with this book. So far I’ve got about three first draft chapters. That means unedited, need to go back and fix the plot holes that are already there. But it’s a good solid base I’m happy with again and can keep writing. This book is going to take me a while to write. It’s highly emotional, and super personal. A huge contrast from the light, fun, and humorous Agent Princess Twinkle Buttons: Matchmaker and The Adventures Of Cole and Perry. If I can finish it by my birthday (May 12th for those curious ones) then I’ll be happy. We’ll see if I can make that happen.

Now for the good stuff.

I’ve got two side characters in The Adventures Of Cole and Perry that refuse to be named. Right now NAME 1 and NAME 2 are sitting there mocking me. So I’m asking everyone reading this to help. Comment with what names I should use, and the ones I pick will win a copy of the book once it’s out. The contest will run until Monday December 15th, 2014 at 9:00PM EST.
